Inception Meeting on Pangolin Conservation Organised

On 25th October 2019, initiation meeting on project entitled "Involving Local Youths as Citizen Scientists in the Conservation of Critically Endangered Chinese Pangolin in Kavrepalanchok District, Central Nepal" was conducted in Panauti Municipality-10, Khopasi, Kavrepalanchowk. The one (1) year project is funded by The Rufford Foundation, UK. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Kavrepalanchok Division Forest Office, local representatives from the Panauti Municipality, Ward number 10, teachers from community schools and members of the Community Forest User Groups from Khopasi. Altogether, 28 participants attended the program.

The initiation meeting presented an overview of the conservation needs of the pangolin and its prevalent threats in the area. The meeting also covered the scope of the project and introduced the participants to the specific activities required for the fulfillment of the objectives of the project that include monthly patrols, research, awareness raising programs and stakeholder's meetings. It also dealt with the project goals, objectives and the methodologies.
